A BIG RED TRICYCLE UNDER THE TREE?

Billy was 7 years old when the division of blind services gave him a bright red rifton tricycle. “This piece of equipment helps him to be out in the community with his family and allows him to get exercise.” said Jennifer Flagge his mom.

Billy now 17 lives with autism, and Septo-Optic Dysplasia causing visual impairment (legally blind) and other serious medical conditions. He still rides around on that Rifton tricycle with his knees poking high to the sky. Due to cutbacks, the Division of Blind Services cannot replace his outgrown trike and the family insurance has denied it.

That’s when Christie Alvarez, one of our recipients Mom, suggested she apply with The JT Townsend Foundation.

“The application arrived on December 19th.” Said Judi Zitiello, Board Chair. “I rushed into action to see if it would be possible to have a new Rifton tricycle delivered before Christmas Eve.”

Rifton is a company that recognizes there is more for children than just sitting. Their products are proudly made in the USA and range from tricycles, standers, activity chairs, floor sitters, multi desks, bathing systems and much more.

While the trike could not be delivered Christmas Eve, it will arrive before December 31st. That bright red large tricycle will fit Billy perfectly and I am sure he will not care it arrived just a few days late.

And by the way, Jennifer is donating Billy’s smaller tricycle to The JT Townsend Foundation Online Closet so that hopefully some other child will benefit from it.
